A Review of the Ugly Mug in Cape May, NJ

I feel like it has been forever since my last review! I went to the Ugly Mug in Cape May when I was making my decision about this blog and creepily enough I kept all of my receipts and remember everything about that trip.

I love going to the Mug.  It’s such a local’s place which can be good or bad depending on whether or not you want a high school reunion that day.  The Mug is a tiny place located in the heart of Cape May.  The size is perfect for any day but Tuesday’s when they have their Terrible Tuesday’s (2 dollar Miller Lites).  The Mug never has a cover which is also fantastic.  One can always find a good source of entertainment here too.  Whether it’s a local band or a DJ there is always something going on here.

Holiday Cocktails

As we all know the holidays are coming and you know what that means. Forced Family Bonding.  Nothing everyone loves more than being forced to spend time with your family that you never see.  Maybe this is why the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is notorious as the biggest drinking day.  To make your holiday better I’ve compiled a list of my favorite holiday drinks and how to make them!

This is an Autumn Punch I found on Pinterest (I love Pinterest. You can find amazing things there and Pinterest will bring you to the orignal site)

Ingredients:

  1. 2 teaspoons of whole cloves
  2. 1/2 of a vanilla bean (make sure you split the bean)
  3. 1 64 once bottle of apple-cranberry juice
  4. 4 medium plums green and purple
  5. 1 750 mL bottle of a fruitty wine (when I make my fall sangria I used White Merlot.  It has a nice body to it while complementing the fruit)

Directions:

  • Place cloves and vanilla bean in center of a double-thick 6-inch square of 100-percent-cotton cheesecloth. Bring corners of cloth together; tie closed with clean string. Pour apple-cranberry juice into a large container or pitcher. Add plums and spice bag. Cover and chill for 4 to 24 hours.
  • Remove and discard cheesecloth bag. Stir in Gewurztraminer. Serve beverage and plum slices over ice. (Or omit the ice and heat the juice mixture and wine in a 4-quart Dutch oven until hot. Serve in heatproof mugs.) Makes 10 to 12 servings.

Now you have an Autumn Punch. I usually make something incredibly similar to this every holiday season.

Drinking Responsibly

We’ve been having a great time the past few months exploring different bars.  I love going out and sampling all types of drinks so everyone knows the best places to go in Cape May and Wildwood.  However, I thought I would share this article that came out November 9, 2012.  The article states that the  closer one lives to the bar the more often one is prone to drinking.  When they say close to the bar they mean within half a mile (aka walking distance).  So, while I want us to go out and have fun I hope all my readers are drinking responsibly.

An Interview with Ryan Krill Owner of Cape May Brewing Company

This week I was lucky to catch up with Ryan Krill, one of the owner’s of Cape May Brewing Company.  This is the first brewery in Cape May.  It’s been open for almost a year and a half and they have seen mass success in the area. They brew several different styles of beer and just opened a Tap Room.  Take a listen into the beginnings and subsequent success of this brewery!
